Small Town Feel
There are some good restaurants and coffee shops, and the public library is nice. Most things worth going to are within walking distance. Frankly, though, Carleton recognizes the fact that Northfield is a small rural town and provides enough activities that there is little reason to go into town. The Twin Cities are definitely accessible if you can find time to go there.

Expensive but Decent Food
The food is alright, and the dining halls are working to be more sustainable (free-trade tea and bananas, eat local campaigns, etc.), but the price is exorbitant, and if you live on campus (as 95% of us do) you typically have to be a meal plan.

Nerdy and Fun
You won't find a lot of gorgeous guys or girls, but you will find a student body that is generally very intelligent, curious, nice, and engaging. Just depends what you find attractive.
