Off-Campus Housing at Virginia Commonwealth University

A-

Housing at VCU

There are three main schools in the heart of Richmond so there is plenty of off campus housing available specifically to students. At VCU the residential and housing councilors will not only help you with on campus housing but will assist you if you decide to live off campus. There are also many places that will accept financial aid to cover your rent and expenses. Living in certain parts of Richmond are more expensive than others. The "Fan" is one of the more pricey areas. Landlords are usually very flexible to college students. People often buy huge houses and rent them out to a group of students with all utilities covered in rent.

Greek Life at Virginia Commonwealth University

Going Greek at VCU

The Greek life at VCU is always thriving. Our fraternities and sororities are dedicated to education, leadership, community service, and brother/sisterhood. Our greek students are not "uptight", snobby, or rude. There is no specific greek housing at VCU. VCU is a large university so the greek life and other organizations is a way for students to work with a smaller group of people with similar interests.

Transportation at Virginia Commonwealth University

Getting Around VCU

All VCU students have the chance to get a free public transportation bus pass at the beginning of the year. This is very convenient because the buses will take you almost anywhere you need to go. There are grocery stores, shops, and entertainment that is also on campus and a short walk away. Our school offers zipcar where you can rent a car for $8 an hour. We have 4 cars on campus, two of which are hybrid and environmentally friendly. If you choose to bring your car there are several parking decks where you may purchase a pass to park. The down side is that these passes are very expensive (about $200) and you have to buy one every semester. If you choose not to park in the garage there is plenty of parking on the streets you just have to be careful when you park because the city does do street cleaning on certain days.
