Facilities at Colorado College

B+

Architecturally Unique

CC has made an effort over the years to vary the styles of architecture of the buildings while still ensuring cohesiveness that really is uniquely beautiful. Modern buildings such as Cornerstone and Tutt Science Center have clean, crisp designs and are were built with environmental friendliness in mind (both are LEED certified). Older buildings like Palmer are gorgeous too. The few buildings from the 60's and 70's aren't nearly as pretty but are still perfectly functionable. Worner Campus Center is close to all 3 major freshmen dorms and houses 2 dining areas, a coffee stand, student mailboxes, a small workout room, a small computer lab, arts studios, an art gallery, and several offices upstairs. There are also comfy couches and study and meeting spaces. The gym has a climbing wall, which is fairly popular, and there's also an ice rink that hosts $1 skating at certain times of the day. The library is nice enough and fairly large - only complaint is that is doesn't stay open 24/7 for occasional all-nighters and sometimes gets crowded and loud during the hectic 4th week of the block.

Campus Strictness at Colorado College

A

Administration Is Not the Police

CC has what the administration itself refers to as a "wet-campus". They won't generally get underage drinkers in trouble unless a serious problem arises, and this really is for the best. It allows students to let someone know if there is a serious problem. The same goes for weed on campus - it's best if you don't advertise that you're doing it but the punishment for getting caught the first time with it is only a fine. CC supports having the Colorado Springs Police patrol the area but they only break up house parties when they get too loud and will occasionally ticket people if they are walking around with open containers. Overall, CC administration only intervenes if they fear for someone's health or safety.

Weather at Colorado College

C+

Unpredictable Is an Understatement

Colorado weather is extremely unpredictable. I've literally walked somewhere in jeans and a t-shirt and gotten caught in a blizzard an hour later. Layers are a must and even if it's in the 70's it's not a good idea to go anywhere without a jacket. It snows a decent amount but it usually melts pretty quickly and hardly ever rains because it's so dry. As soon as it's decently nice everyone is outside from noon till dinnertime.

Off-Campus Dining at Colorado College

A-

Delicious but Sometimes Pricey

CC is right next to downtown so it's a quick walk to lots of restaurants, many of which take gold card plus money which can be added to your student account by you or your parents and used as a debit card. Lots of restaurants offer CC discounts too. Most restaurants are moderately priced and there isn't much in terms of fast food within walking distance, but there also isn't much of a demand for it. Popular places to eat include Wooglins Deli, Poor Richards, La'aus, Josh and Johns, and Fujiyama.

Diversity at Colorado College

C-

Lacking for Sure

There isn't much. Most students are white, upper-middle to upper class, liberal, and from either the Northeast, Northwest or Colorado. Students are certainly open to other races and I've never met anyone I would consider in the least bit racist, there just aren't many minorities. There's a fair number of LBGT students who are fairly active on campus and tend to be pretty received well. There's also a small but very vocal number of hardcore feminists. Sometimes CC students have a tendency to claim to be very open minded but run into trouble when confronted with actual conservative viewpoints, but this isn't too much of a problem on campus.

Parking at Colorado College

B

Not an Issue

Freshmen aren't technically allowed to have cars on campus which really only means it's hard to get a parking pass. Most freshmen just park on the street and sometimes get parking tickets. Campus is small enough that no one drives around campus and there's usually enough parking to store your car until you need it to go off-campus.

Transportation at Colorado College

D

Nonexistent for the Most Part

There is no convenient public transportation in Colorado Springs, but there's not a big need for it. Almost everything you need you can get on campus. Shuttles from CC to the Denver airport are around $50.

Nightlife at Colorado College

A+

8Th Block at CC Is the Best

The CC party scene is fantastic if that's what you're into. 1st and 8th block the seniors create senior party calendars which include crazy theme parties every night at their off-campus houses, all of which are within walking distance. It dies down a little during the rest of the year but there's still a house party most nights, and some houses are notorious for throwing down almost every night. When there's no ridiculous theme to dress up for CC students just opt for neon everything. All house parties are free and seniors see it as their responsibility to provide free alcohol to underclassmen because they were provided with it when they were underage, but don't expect anything more than beer at the parties. Most students drink quite a bit before going out in either the dorms, the apartments, or off-campus houses in small or medium groups. Not everyone drinks at CC but most do, at least occasionally, and there are definitely quite a few heavy drinkers, but there's very little peer pressure to drink. No one cares if you aren't drinking, you just might not end up enjoying the parties if you're not.
