Recent Political Protest

During finals week of the Spring 2011 semester, there was a political protest on our Parade Grounds. A graduate student was requesting to practice his right to the first amendment by burning the United Staes Flag. He was doing it in response to a prior flag burning that had taken place earlier in the week(by an international student after the death of Bin Laden.) During the protest, there were many anti-flag burning present. Because they had so many anti-flag burning students present, the man was unable to burn his flag, and had to be escorted away from the site by police. In response to that protest, our Student Body President help a peaceful protest after where anyone who was against flag-burning, or was not afraid to show how much love they have for their country gathered. We said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang The National Anthem, and then everyone returned to the activity they were doing prior to that. I feel like these two protests showed just how diverse the students at LSU are in a number of ways, not just politically. I am not sure how to grade us on diversity here, therefor i chose N/A.

Academics at Louisiana State University

A-

Pre-Nursing

I think LSU has a very unique program for Nursing. Because all nursing student transfer to LSUHSC in New Orleans, LA, after they have completed a total of 34 pre-reqs hours. I am starting to realize how bitter-sweet the whole program is. Since you are only at the LSU campus for a short period of time, you really do not get to enjoy all of the experiences most LSU students do. Also, the longer you stay, the harder it is to leave!

Nightlife at Louisiana State University

Night Life

I feel like LSU has one of the best college night lives around! All of the local college bars are located in one condensed area called "TigerLand." While it is extremely fun to go out with your friends, most of the bars are strict on the drinking age, which in Louisiana is 21. It is very difficult for a minor to buy drinks at a bar, and some bars will even take your drink away if you are not 21. Another pro that LSU night life has is the bus system, or as the college students like to call "The Drunk Bus." Our regular school busses that run during the day, also run at night until 3 am on Thursdays-Saturdays. This is a great idea i think because it tremendously reduces the amounts of DWIs, and it has all of the regular stops at night as it does during the day.
