Generally Safe, but Clifton Is a Bit Sketchy.
I generally feel safe on campus, but I do get e-mails weekly of off-campus (within less than a half mile) armed robberies and occasional shootings. I am unfortunately spending A LOT of extra money on an apartment in a gated community with security cameras for this particular reason.

Decent Overall
UC is a huge school, so it's difficult to categorize the student body. There are many different types of people; science types, artsy DAAP types, and the "guy/girl nextdoor." People are also generally very friendly. As far as safety, Clifton is what it is. On campus, it generally feels safe, but it's hard to ignore the weekly e-mails of armed robberies off-campus. Off-campus apartments are also either very nice and pricey or old/not exactly nice at all. As far as academics, I'm a transfer and I've found a lot of the humanities classes to be a joke and not particularly deep here, but the math and science classes are more challenging. Overall, I really like UC.

UC is a very friendly campus. It also offers one of the top (#2 maybe?) co-op programs in the nation, although I don't know anyone outside of DAAP who's actually done it.
