has anyone heard about the admission rates for c/o 2016 or 2017? all the data is from 2011 (c/o/2015).

Class of 2016 had one of the most applicants the college has seen (upwards of 4,000) with only 450 accepted.

are you sure thats the acceptance rate? that may be the amount of people who decided to attend (yield), but if it was acceptance that would be around 11%...

Don't worry, William Caleb has no idea what he's talking about. Acceptance rate was substantially higher than that. More like somewhere in the low 30s. 450 decided to join the class of 2016.

CollegeBoard BigFuture claims the data is from applicants in Fall 2012. It says Grinnell's acceptance rate was 36%.

How is it being in rural Iowa? Do you know absolutely everyone or is there ever room to meet new people?? Grinnell is my top choice, but I just want to make sure its not a claustrophobically small school with no one new to meet , especially when you're stuck in the middle of rural Iowa.

The location worries me too. I love everything I've heard about the school, but the location sounds scary to a city dweller

Grinnell is a pretty good size, so nobody knows everyone. Also, it's not as though you can see cornfields from your window. You can't really tell you're in rural Iowa.

The campus is small enough that there are a lot of familiar faces, but there are definitely always new people to meet. I've made new friends every semester I've been here. Every year you'll have new people on your floor and new people in your classes. There's no way you'll know everyone, but you will become familiar with a lot of the faces on campus. And the small size can be nice because when you do meet someone new there's a good chance you'll run into them sometime in the next several days, which makes it easy to maintain new friendships.

And as for rural Iowa, Grinnell makes up for this by having tons of activities on campus all the time. I usually don't like leaving for the weekend because I know I'll be missing something here.

what is the social feel around Grinnell? accepting people, awkward people, fun people, party people? as much information as possible would be great

People tend to be very accepting of one another at Grinnell, and there are many different types of people. Lots are particularly academic oriented students, and love to party as well. You will undoubtedly find your "flavor" of people here.

how liberal is this school? are there a lot of rednecks? and how is the sociology department?

Missoula is not EXTREMELY liberal, just liberal for Montana really...No rednecks by the way, and as far as I know, the sociology department is okay...I have family who went to the University of Montana and loved it.

Very liberal. More hippies than rednecks. Don't know about sociology

Sociology Depatment is awesome..I will be graduation from the SOCI department in May 2013...the professors are very helpful and understanding.

Missoula is the liberal capitol of Montana, there aren't any rednecks really, this is pretty far up north for that, but downtown in Missoula is where all the liberal people congregate.

The University of Montana supports a variety of political views and people. Everyone can del welcome in some group of people. The sociology department is well reviewed and respected.

The school is extremely liberal- it's especially overbearing in Poli Sci classes and that is why I'm not going to minor in the field. There are some rednecks, but there are also hippies.
