Hey there!

I'm a born and raised Yankee from New York. I'll be honest and tell you I've had a lot of issues making girl friends, but I think it's because of the way I am. Girls aren't mean to you just because you say you're from the north, in fact, they usually think it's cool to meet someone from so far away. Only once have I had a girl be snippy because of my upbringing: "You think that skirt is cute because you're from New York, but you better learn real fast that us southerners don't think it is."

Obviously, there are jerks everywhere, but the majority of girls at Auburn will like you depending on how northern you are and act. Are you loud, brash, quick to curse, and confrontational? If so, you probably won't get along with them so well, just like me. I had a ton of friends back north because they can handle it, but southern women just can't. However, if you are laid back, more quiet, chill, and can adjust to different cultures easily, you'll be just fine. If not though, I'd advise against it. Before I came to Auburn, I didn't realize how Yankee I was because everyone from my world was just like me. So just evaluate yourself first and how good you are with change, then make your decision.

Ive lived in the deep south all my life and i love northerners and i cant wait to go to auburn, so no worries!

My roommate was from DC, and like missivorykeys said, it all depends on how extreme you are. Southern hospitality is amazing, and while some southern girls can be very honest and quick to judge, most of us are open to people who are different, and the southern experience is always an awesome one to have! :)
