Living on Campus Is Convenient and Fun
I love living in the dorms. The girls that I was placed on a hall with could not have been more fantastic, and my friends and I worked with the system to all live in the same dorm next year. Because campus is so small it's very convenient to live on campus. The dorms are nice and most upperclassmen dorms are pretty roomy. I like that a lot of dorms with hall bathrooms have sinks in the room.

Nightlife Is Fun
Most of the parties are on campus or really close to campus so they're convenient. I don't drink and I like that I don't feel pressured to, though alcohol is definitely available all the time. I've gone to some parties with kids at other schools and still had fun. Overall, Memphis is a great place to be and you can always find something to do on the weekends.

Memphis Is SO FUN
Memphis is a great city. There is a ton to see and do day or night. Memphis in May brings a lot of great big name musical artists but there's also a lot of cool local bands, places to see performances, and a decent underground music scene. The food cannot be beat. I have yet to eat anywhere in Memphis and thought, "Ahh, I probably wouldn't eat there again." Shopping can be a bit of a challenge since big malls are twenty minutes away but there are a lot of good basic stores around Rhdoes (i.e. Dillards, Payless, Target, Macys, Charlotte Russe, American Eagle, Journey's, Old Navy, etc.). Memphis has great museums and historical sites as well as fun places to go visit. Local people don't seem to mind college students and will often strike up a conversation about school with you and say positive things.

Someone for Everyone
As far as I can tell, there is someone for everyone at Rhodes. If you're into preppy guys or sporty guys we have them but we also have hipsters, nerds, intellectuals, and really anything you can think of. The boys tend to be pretty good looking and so do the girls. Campus dress tends to be casual and preppy but not everyone dresses that way by any means.

Be Prepared to Work... HARD
Academics at Rhodes involve a lot of reading and a lot of writing but ultimately it works out well. It's totally doable and graduate schools know that Rhodes students can do the work. You really have to attend classes to do well (also because of the attendance policy). Professors are generally great, love the subjects they teach, and want to help you learn. They're really willing to work one on one with their students. Registering for classes can be daunting because of the dreaded "Tree" but once you figure out the system it's easy to get the classes you want or need. Also, the foundations curriculum (which everyone is required to complete) gives a strong liberal arts foundation and lets you try out areas you may want to study. The Search/Life courses are an especially wonderful part of the Foundations.

Pretty Tech Savvy but Internet Is Awful
Rhodes seems to have a ton of problems with the internet. They're constantly trying to upgrade it but there are a lot of outages that come at super inconvenient times. However, tech support is great and there are lots of computers and printers around campus for students to use. You can almost always find a computer if you need one (unless the wireless is down).
