Local Atmosphere at University of New Hampshire

A+

AWESOME

There is sooooo much to do in and around Durham. Multiple activities are put on by the MUB and if that's not your thing, the beach is 15 minutes away, Boston is an hour, and Portsmouth is 10 minutes down the road. You can find anything around here

Campus Dining at University of New Hampshire

Get Fat

The Dining Hall food is not considered dining hall food. It is so good, they will keep you coming back for more. Whether it be stir-fry, omelettes, or the European stations, you can't just have one plate.

Inside Scoop at University of New Hampshire

A+

Urban Setting, but Close to City

With the campus being in a very urban setting, there is not many out-of-towners, and it can be quiet when you want it to be. However, when you get bored you can just hop on the bus for free to Portsmouth/surrounding areas, or take the train that runs through campus to Boston or Portland for cheap.

Campus Housing at University of New Hampshire

A

Freshman Living. . .

I would definitely recommend to the incoming Freshman one of the two Freshman dorms: Williamson & Christiansen. Although they are out of the way and a long walk to some of campus, the amount of people you meet and friends that you make is well worth it. Plus, Philbrook dining hall is a 2-second walk. They are always open late for whenever you want a late-night snack or PANCAKES!!!

Diversity at University of New Hampshire

B

Not Bad. . .

The diversity that you will find around campus is mostly dominated by the African-Americans and the Orientals. Other than that, you will not find many other cultures. I would say that there is about 20% non-caucasion students on campus. . .

Parking at University of New Hampshire

A

Who Needs a Car?

There really is no point to have a car on campus. Everything is within walking distance around the University, and then there are also busses that have multiple stops that come around almost every 10 minutes for those that are more lazy. There is also the Amtrak Downeaster that runs through campus and goes to Portland, ME, and then down to Boston North Station making several stops along the way. The Wildcat Transit is also free for all students and takes you to and from Durham, Portsmouth, Newmarket, Newington, and Dover.

Greek Life at University of New Hampshire

A+

Amazing Opportunity

I have been in Greek Life since the Spring semester of my Freshman year and have not regretted a single second of it. There are so many opportunities that arise from being part of a Fraternity/Sorority that it seems absurd to pass it up. The pledging process is nothing like people make them out to be in the stereotypes. And although there are a couple of men/women that do fill the stereotype, there are countless Greeks that outweigh them. You can get involved in things earn you leadership experience, volunteer projects, educational advancement programs, and much much more. This is also a great way to make lifelong friends and partners. I will never forget a single brother in my fraternity, and I expect to have them all at my wedding.

Nightlife at University of New Hampshire

A+

. . .Should Be Number 3. . .

There is never a boring night on the UNH campus. Whether your taste is for partying, or just hanging out with friends, they fill your needs. There are Fraternities that throw great parties and very little trouble comes from them. (STAY AWAY FROM UNRECOGNIZED FRATERNITIES). Then there are also places like Young Drive and Coe Drive that are a more House Party Atmosphere. If the party scene isn't your thing, the MUB After Hours always has the two MUB Lecture halls open showing the most recent movies. The Wildcat Den, (pool hall, video games, ping pong, etc) is also a great late night option.
