Asian Studies

I find it contradictory that the Asian Studies major asks you to specify East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia as a regional focus but none of the Claremont Colleges offers a South Asian or Southeast Asian language. There are some unique and interesting classes though.

Athletics at Claremont McKenna College

A-

Good but No Swimming Intramural

If you are a swimmer on one of the college teams, then things are perfect. If you were on the swim team in high school but perhaps not good enough for the team or did not want such a time commitment, there is no intermediate option for swim practise for you. Sad! Nevertheless the facilities are good and options for other sports are plenty. Use the Scripps gym. It is AMAZING.

Transportation at Claremont McKenna College

A

Walking Is Fine.

You really have no need for any form of transportation, even a bicycle or a long board, to access any of the Claremont Colleges or the village or Trader Joe's. If you want to go into LA, you can take the train, but I suppose a car would be more convenient.

Excellent

Some of the professors are AMAZING, and the academics are challenging but do not overwhelm you with work. In freshman year, most people complete GE's, but you can still register for one or two interesting classes before they fill up. After the first year, people start specialising to their major more and you can usually get what you want, I think. I have heard that the study abroad programs are life-changing.

Campus Dining at Claremont McKenna College

A

Really Good

I always thought the food was pretty decent, but when I began to visit friends at other colleges in America I realised that we are VERY lucky. The atmosphere of all the dining halls is pretty decent, and there are some really good options. World Wok at Collins every lunch time, Sushi night at Scripps, Burrito night at Frary, and other specialities. There is also the 5C menu online so that you can check which dining hall you want to eat at. As a vegetarian, there are fairly good options.
