Awesome
The dining options at CMC are just about unparalleled, with the exceptions being the other Claremont Colleges. Collins, the dining hall at CMC, has consistently good options- tons of fresh fruits and veggies, sandwich bar, grill, pasta, rotating main meals and expos- and we also have access to six other dining halls across the 5Cs, which means that you can find just about anything you want on a given night (people love Collins' World Wok, Taco Tuesdays at Pitzer, Scripps sushi on Fridays, etc.). Extra dining dollars, or flex, give you access to different dining options like Scripps' coffeehouse, a late-night cafe at Mudd, and a bunch of others, and flex is automatically built into the meal plans.

Pretty Lax
CMC as a whole tends to emphasize individual and collective responsibility, and that extends to the issue of drugs. Being in California, marijuana isn't exactly difficult to find (and some have medical cards), but because of the academic demands the people who do smoke tend to do so at night or on weekends. Campus security and RAs generally ignore the smoking as long as people exercise some discretion. Beyond that, there are people who dabble in other substances, but it's incredibly private and would be easy to go all four years without even hearing of someone trying anything harder.

Unnecessary
On-campus housing is really nice, affordable, and convenient, so the vast majority of people live in the dorms or senior apartments. Of those who live elsewhere, there's a pretty nice apartment complex within walking distance, so the off-campus option is available.

Actual (Not Just Statistical) Diversity
Although CMC might not have the diversity, on paper, of some other schools, the actual levels of diversity here are pretty high. People from all sorts of backgrounds (racial, geographic, religious) and with incredibly varying political beliefs and orientations interact seamlessly on campus; people don't tend to self-segregate here. Also, the political diversity is AMAZING and really contributes to the political activism and discourse of the student body.

Nice and Getting Better
With access to the whole Claremont Consortium, students at CMC have an amazing range and level of facilities. From Honnold-Mudd, the enormous library, to the gyms at both CMC and Scripps (a new fitness complex, complete with saltwater pool, which all CMC students can use), to Walker Beach at Pomona, with its sand volleyball court, we have an amazing wealth of options. The Kravis Center (to be opened by Fall 2011) will be LEED-certified and house student, faculty, and administrative services; the building is part of a plan to update and modernize much of the campus.
