Pros and Cons
Off campus housing can be very close to the school, there are apartments that are directly across from the Hub (where dining services, mail/package pickup, the school bookstore and the dean of students offices are). The surrounding streets are generally safe but a 15 minute from Tome (the science building) there is the "ghetto of Carlisle" where there is known to be a meth lab (stay away). Townies though are generally friendly.
The housing itself can be a hit or miss, the outside of the buildings are anything but impressive but depending on the building, some of the apartments or houses are liveable.
The biggest pro is how close it is to campus and how easy it is for parking.

Sexual Orientation
The LGBT Group on campus is known to be very active, the president of the student council is an openly gay male named, who discussed how easy it was to be openly gay at dickinson in his opening remarks to the incoming freshman class this year (2011).
They often also have a lot of events, for example a crossdressing themed dance open for all students, and "Out-tober" where supporters as well as the gay community came together to make a friendly and open community for people who were "coming out".
From my experience people here do not judge based on your sexual orientation.

The Students
If you are skinny, attractive and extremely preppy then Dickinson is the college for you.
Dickinson is not home to many over-weight kids and it is easy here not to gain the freshman 15 with the fresh vegetables, fruit and salad bar grown fresh from dickinsons farm.
The kids here are all very rich though and if you do not come from money you can often feel out of place. There seems to be two extremes here, most people i have met are either stuck up preps who use daddys credit card (counting boys too) or the chill stoners who smoke a lot of week and experiment with drugs like LSD, Shrooms, Molly, and E on the weekends.
