Most of the Restaurants Are Off East Campus
There is a center call Brightleaf Square that has a number of restaurants; most are a little more on the expensive end, but not too bad. We also have" merchants on points", which are restaurants near campus that will deliver and you can use your food points! Many freshmen go to Cosmic Cantina for late night Mexican, and also Torrero's during the day. 9th Street and downtown (both closer to east than west campus) have some good options, but there are also some good restaurants on Erwin Road (right near west campus).

The Police Are Your Friends...Pretty Much
The Duke police do absolutely nothing when they see people drinking alcohol. The RAs give the policy about which type of alcohol you can distribute and which you can't, but I have yet to see this strictly enforced. The party scene (but not the entire social scene) revolves around the Greeks, but they're fun! Getting alcohol couldn't be easier; just walk up and ask. If you're at a party on Central Campus, make sure everyone goes inside the apartment so it won't get shut down.

Bipolar Weather!
The weather here is bipolar, but there isn't really an effect on campus life. Just make sure you bring a jacket with you in case it decided to cool off. Also, bring rain boots because it rains a lot. It doesn't snow much, which is the weather that could potentially affect campus life the most. When it snows, it's usually an inch-ish...if that. The weather is usually really nice...the summer can get VERY hot, but most students don't have to worry about that.
