Facilities at Simmons College

A-

Facilities

Holmes sports center has a weight room, indoor track, swimming pool, sauna, basketball and volleyball courts, and two dance studios. The one downside is that the pool hours are not necessarily the most convenient hours and the sprts center closes rather early. If you're the type to exercise after eight PM or before your early morning class that starts at eight AM then you need to go elsewhere.

As for location, it is conveiniently located right next door to the health center on the residential campus. This leads to the fact that Simmons has two campuses located about three minutes walk apart. One is the residential capus with Barthol dining hall, the Holmes Sports Center, a mailing room, Health Center, Residential Life Offices, practice rooms (with piano) and a cafe and small convenience store that opens at eight PM until midnight.

The other campus is the acedemic campus with all class rooms and faculty offices. The College center, financial services, student life, and counseing servees are located here. there is also another cafe as well as a coffee shop and dining center located on this campus and the meal plan covers all on-campus dining on both campuses.

Personally, I like the seperation as is clearly deliniates relaxing space and school space, like home and class.

Drug Safety at Simmons College

B+

I Know It's There but I'm Not Part of It

There is some marijuana and under age drinking that goes on but most of it is off campus. Simmons isn't a big party school so if that's your scene you typically go off campus for it. In relation to drinking, Simmons has a safety first policy. You won't get into trouble for drinking underage if for some reason you call public safety for help. However, like I said, I know the policies but I hae no fist hand experience with them.

Transportation at Simmons College

A+

No Car Necessary

It's an easy 3-5 minute walk from the dorms to classes. Simmons is also located downtown about 5 minutes from Fenway Park and with in 10 minutes walk there is a grocery store, arts supply store, a few good restraunts, Barnes and Noble, movie theater, ice cream and frozen yogurt shops, etc. For an actual mall, the subway station is about a 6 minute walk from the dorms and costs $1.7 per ride but it is efficient. If you don't mind a long walk, about an hour at a slow pace then you can walk to Newberry Street where there is lots of great shopping. For out-of-state transport then it's about an hours ride on the T (subway) to a free shuttle to the airport. I personally have no desire to ever drive in Boston.
