A Lot of Renovations
In the last five years or so there have been a lot of renovations at State, including dorm rooms, the stadium, lecture halls, etc. Overall, I'd say the campus has improved a TON. Though there's definitely a lot of buildings that haven't been touched since the 70's, they're trying really hard to update all of the buildings, especially dorms.

Very Diverse for a Small Town
Considering East Lansing isn't very big, it's probably one of the most diverse place in a 50-mile radius (next closest is probably University of Michigan). There are students from all over the world and elasticities. Most international students tend to stick together (language/culture barriers, etc) but everyone seems really nice. There are also clubs especially for international students to make them feel at home.

So Much School Spirit
I transferred here to MSU from a local community college, and it is SO much better! People are really friendly, and there is a lot of school spirit. Everybody is working for the weekend, but they know how to get things done in the classroom. People are here to party, but more importantly they're here to graduate (even if that may take longer than expected).
If given the choice, I would choose MSU again.

Mostly Alcohol....
It's not uncommon to see kids stumbling down the sidewalks drunk, or seeing a huge line-up of people with the munchies at taco bell. Other than alcohol and weed, I'd say the two next most popular drugs are adderall/vyvanse or molly, though I rarely see the latter.
In terms of usage, basically everyone drinks and smokes weed. Someone may pressure you into drinking, but once you say no once they'll give up. Same with weed. As for enforcement, EL cops are TOUGH on underage drinking. I think it's how they make their payroll, that and parking tickets.

Athletics Are Huge
Here, sports are a major pastime. Athletes are basically treated as gods, but I don't mind it. Football and basketball are definitely our biggest sports, and it's amazing how fast season tickets sell out for both. There's definitely a lot of school spirit.
