Dining in Rice Village
The nearby (walking distance) Rice Village is brimming with great restaurants. Rice provides a shuttle from campus to the village on Saturday nights for dinner if you don't feel like walking. You can find almost every type of food: Italian, Mexican, Thai, American, you name it. Some of my favorite village restaurants are Black Walnut Cafe and Le Madeline.

No Greek Life
Rice doesn't have a Greek life, but instead every member of the undergraduate community is placed in one of eleven residential colleges that they will be affiliated with for the next four years and beyond.

Not Neccesary, but Helpful
First year students will get West Lot parking which is on the edge of campus by the stadium. You can ride the Inner Loop shuttle out to West Lot if you don't feel like walking.
You don't need a car to be happy at Rice, but because Houston is very much a driving city there will be times when you'll want one. However, because of the residential college system, I can almost guarantee you'll be close friends with at least one upperclassmen with a car who would be willing to take you wherever you need to go.
