Diversity on Campus
Although there are a lot of white students on campus and the percentage of students who are of different races is somewhat low, there are a lot of different types of students. But I still feel like we are not very diverse.

Strictness About Drugs and Alcohol
James Madison has definately gotten very strict when it comes to alcohol and drugs. The police force can be pretty strict about underage drinking and drug use. First-time offenders get a letter sent home, and second- and third-time offenders are in danger of suspension and even possibly expulsion. It’s pretty serious if you get caught. However, if you are discreet about it, you more than likely won't get caught. As long as you aren't walking in the street stumbling or drawing a lot of attention to yourself, you should be fine.

Overall Experience at JMU
James Madison is a wonderful school. I have had nothing but the best experience while I have been here. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the classes are good. It is the place I have always wanted to go and I would not change it for the world. Parties are big, but if you don't party--like me--it's not all bad. There are other ways to have fun than to go out.

Education Program
I came to JMU because I heard a lot of good things about its education program. I am currently in it and I am amazed at how prepared they make you for the future. My professors always give little examples about how we can incorporate what we learn into lesson plans for your future classes. Most of the education courses are small, so that the students get more attention from the professor. I absolutely love being in the education program!

Off-Campus Dining
Harrisonburg is a pretty small town, but right off campus there is a an area with a lot of restaurants. Some actually accept money off of our dining card (only money called FLEX, which you personally have to put money on yourself). We have really good Mexican places and we also have some big named chain restaurants (o'Charleys, Ruby Tuesday, Red Lobster, etc.) Some places are even in walking distance from campus which is convenient for students without cars.
