The Residential College System Makes Housing Great
Rice students are sorted into one of eleven different residential colleges the summer before their first year at Rice. They then live at their residential college every year that they are campus. This creates a wonderful sense of family among the members of each college. Each college has its own unique culture that its members fully embrace. As for the rooms themselves, some residential colleges are hall style, while some are suite style. The suite style rooms tend to be a bit nicer, but overall the rooms at all the colleges seem to be nicer than the dorms you'd find at other universities.

Not Perfect, but Not Overly Strict
For the most part, the police department and Rice students seem to get along well. Most notably is the drinking policy at Rice. Basically, if you want to drink in public, you need to be of age, but otherwise, you and your friends can can drink in private, in your room for example, and as long as you don't get too loud and disturb others, or take your drinks outside where a police officer can see you, you won't get in trouble.
There have been some parking issues, and some issues with the campus police being too strict at public parties, but for the most part they are not overly strict.

Off Campus Life Could Be Worse
Most Rice students try to avoid living off campus, because there's always so much going on on campus, especially with the residential college system. However, with our enrollment increasing, there's not enough room for everyone to live on campus, so some of us get kicked off for a year. Luckily, there are some good options for living off campus. You'll want to start looking for housing as soon as possible, especially if you want to live close to campus, but for the most part, you'll be able to find a nice apartment or house to rent. Most people can find very nice, affordable places; imagine living in an apartment three times the size of one a student would live in in New York City, but for a third of the price.

Rice Kids Need More Confidence
The guys and girls at Rice might not look like supermodels, but I would have to say that a lot of them are attractive. It's the combination of looks, brains, and good personalities. The only thing is that Rice students hide behind the stereotype of being too awkward and busy to date. Not to say that nobody dates, but it seems to take a lot more effort than it should.

Expensive, but Sometimes Necessary
Parking at Rice is pretty expensive, but if you need to get around Houston a lot, or if you have to commute, it's worth it since Houston is a very car friendly city. Most of the parking lots are pretty far away from the rest of campus, but there's almost always space to park, and there's also shuttles during the week that will take you closer where you need to go. Also, depending on which permit you get, you can park in the closer lots in the evenings and on weekends.

Very Diverse, Just Like Houston
Rice is very diverse, and provides a safe and accepting environment for all of its students. However, while I do have a fairly diverse set of friends, certain people do tend to segregate themselves.

Mostly Good Weather
If you're not from Houston, you may feel like a warm blanket is smothering you for the first few months of school. However, as the year progresses, the humidity and heat go down and except for a few downpours, the weather is pretty good. If you're from the Northern US and you're tired of the cold, you will definitely enjoy winter in Houston.
