More Please (Parking I Mean)
Hampton is a place where you desperately need a car to go anywhere for any kind of food or fun. The school is located on a peninsula of land away from the actual city of Hampton, so the closest part is the downtown area, and there's nothing much in the way of nightlife or stores there anyway. The costs to have a campus parking permit are a bit much, especially since 1.-you have to wait until you have enough credits to be considered a junior to have a car on campus, and 2.- students who live on campus have a finite amount of parking areas to leave their cars in, while the facutly and staff, who are on campus for only half the day, have more parking spaces than they need. The students who live off campus are inconvenienced even more because they can't even park on campus until after five, and are forced to leave home at least half an hour early to get to park in what we call "Africa"; an area of parking inconveniently far away from many of the classrooms.

What Makes Hampton the Real HU
My school provides a great deal of programs and training to procur a career or internship in your field of study by your graduation. They make you attend a informative and practice workshops on how to go into an interview and what to ask, they make you type up a proper resume as well. Some majors even have to have had an internship in order to graduate. Some think it overly zealous of them to do so on my campus, but if you look at how hard it is to get a job in the job market these days, especially with the recession, such training is actually very beneficial for us.

The Hampton Runaround
It is a fact of life that in every college you go to, you will have to deal with the ever present runaround; trying to get something done and getting redirected around in a circle. At Hampton, you have to make sure you have all your information, all your papers, everything you could possibly need for financial aid in order to get anything done, and you have to make sure to do it as soon as humanly possible. Otherwise, you will either be up to your earlobes in loans, or you'll be yelling at the financial aid advisor about how you have to wait a semester to come back to school because someone messed up your financial aid. And don't you dare think of letting your grades drop because the minute they do, that financial aid is gone and your OB5 (Out by five).

Costly, but Better Than Caf Food
Off-campus food is good, lots of different varieties to choose from, especially on Mercury. The costs aren't usually too bad, but if your on a budget, eating out everyday isn't the best option. Some places give student discounts, but not alot. The location of the places are more convenient if you own a car, otherwise it's taxi time. Best places to go to would be BD's Mongolian Grill, or if your looking for something good but cheap, check out Cici's Pizza.

You Better Have Your Own Car
The only transport the school gives is a shuttle bus that, every hour, picks people up to take them wherever they need to go on campus, or a bus to take athletes to games or students on field trips. If you wanna go anywhere off campus that's not walking distance, which is almost everything, you better have lots of money for cab fare, or your own car (which your not allowed to have on campus until you have enough credits to be considered a Junior. What fun).

Tiresome
Can we just get some free money to move off campus where we get actual freedom and call it a day?

Welcome to Convocation, a.k.a. "Africa." The building not only houses the basketball stadium, where the Hampton Pirate men play home games to win, but its parking lot also serves as the parking for all off-campus housing students between the times of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Unfortunately, the parking lot is located in the back section of campus, far from necessary classes; hence, its nickname of "Africa."
