There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of on campus. There is very little theft; people often just leave their laptops and personal belongings out in the library. Students at Hamilton respect each other's property. I haven't locked my dorm for the 4 years I've been here, and people who live off campus downtown typically do the same.
In terms of physical safety, there is nothing dangerous to find even if you looked for it. We are in the little town of Clinton and surrounded by farms and forests. I'm comfortable going anywhere at any time because there is simply no danger anywhere near campus.
The only concern you should have about personal safety is Kirkland Police giving you a hard time if you're running around town late night.

No Complaints
The Jitney is the backbone of transportation on campus. It's a 12 or 14 person van, but 20 drunk people usually just pile in anyway, and it's a remarkably cordial process to find a seat. It will take you everywhere you need to go: the bars, the grocery store, and the liquor store.
90% of your friends will have cars however, so you only need to take the Jitney late night when everyone is drunk. Yes, it can get a little annoying sometimes waiting a few minutes for the Jitney, but no one's complaining.
For big off-campus parties, the fraternities and sororities sponsor large buses for these events. The school also provides great transportation for ski trips every wednesday, etc.
