Lots of Options
There are quite a few options for living off campus at MSU. My roommate and I found an apartment that is a twenty minute walk from campus and about 5 minutes from downtown. The nicer houses and apartments that are near campus are a little bit more pricey but there are also many options that are very nice for much cheaper if you are okay with living a ways away.

Hippies and Cowboys
Bozeman has a great mix of people for being in a more rural setting. There are many local Montana students who come for the cheaper in state tuition but there are also many students from Washington, Colorado, and the East coast who come mainly because it is so close to great skiing.

Fairly Drug Free
There is definitely some weed smoking going on in Bozeman and of course kids drinking alcohol but I haven't seem use of any hard core drugs. Peer pressure seems to be minimal to none.
