The Campus Is It's Own Beautiful Bubble
I wanted to be near a city and when I picked Goucher that city ended up being Baltimore. I try to get into town as much as I can but it's hard since Goucher is kind of far from Baltimore. I take the College Town Shuttle because it is free but it is not reliable, which is very frustrating. Goucher's campus is beautiful. There is usually always something to do at the Gopher Hole but it's hard to find other stuff on campus to do. I would go into the city in the evening but Baltimore isn't exactly safe and Towson doesn't offer a lot to do, or at least I haven't had a chance to explore it. I live in Sondheim and my dorm is amazing. I love the house, I love the room, I love my bathroom, and my common room. But living here also has it's draw backs. People are not as friendly cause they can shut themselves up in their rooms and I feel excluded from all the freshman bonding happening in Stimson. Over all I'm finding that if I'm serious about my studies and extra curricular I don't have an entire day to travel into Baltimore, explore, and make it back before sun set. I'm going off campus a lot with clubs. I'm going to D.C., which I wish was easier to get to and more accessible, with the Roosevelt Institute. I'm going to PA for a debate meet. I'm going to NC for a regional version of Powershift. All these things excite me. I want to have access to all the East Coast has to offer, that is why I left beautiful Colorado and came here. I want it to be easier to get on and off campus and into cities. Goucher is a great home base. I love the ath, I love how beautiful the campus is and how safe I feel here. I love my bed, my room, and my roommate is perfect. But it can become isolating, it can become a bubble and I think a bubble, all though beautiful, needs to eventually pop. Whose got an extended index finger?

The Arts Are More Important
I can't complain. that is why I came here. NO FOOTBALL TEAM! If we got one, I might actually consider leaving, and that is a huge statement to make because I am absolutely in love with Goucher. I give it an A+ because I think sports have their appropriate place. you can participate in them if you want to but if you don't want to you don't have to. I don't share the frustration athletes do here because I am an avid supporter of the arts. Yes, I might show up to a game, but I won't enjoy it as much. I will go the opera, or a play, or a concert in the GoHo. That is why I came here, because that is what I enjoy. Anyone here for athletics knew what it would be like, we are not a big sports school. I don't condemn them or thinks sports are useless, I used to be an athlete myself. I think it's valuable, I know we need them on campus, I know I should probably support them more. Sports just aren't my thing. I'm here to be myself, be with the arts. I respect athletes. I wish they didn't seem so isolated from everyone else. My friends who are athletes I rarely see and I wish I saw them more. I think Goucher has a unique identity. I think we stay true to that in the way we see students go for what they love, there are just more students here who consider the Arts to be more important and that is OK

Why Don't a Smell More Pot?
My opinion on this is incredibly bias. First of all I live in substance free housing. My friends at home and my friends here don't have problems with substance abuse. Yes, I know people who do drugs, but just pot. In Colorado pot was normal, it was accepted. I for one would not partake in it and I am by no means saying canibus is a good thing, I wish drugs weren't an issue. But drugs are. I smell pot every weekend but it's less than I expected, but my standard is CU Boulder where there are dispensaries in abundance just across the street from the campus. I would say Goucher has a lot of hooka smokers, tabacco smokers, there is pot here but I haven't observed anything crazy! But again, my standard and my immediate surroundings are very bias.
