Greek Life at Virginia Tech

A-

Greek Hang With Greeks

The Greek scene at Virginia Tech is what you want to make it. If you choose to go Greek, it will basically be your whole social life. Girls who join Sororities tend to hang out with mostly Fraternity guys when they go out. This is fostered by the weekly socials (or mixers)that the Fraternities and Sororities have and because it is easier to hear about Greek parties when you are already Greek. However, if students are not Greek, they are not looked down upon by other students. The campus is a majority non-Greek so there are plenty of social groups to hang out with if you aren't Greek. Because there is not that much interaction between Greeks and non-Greeks besides classes, non-Greeks tend not to understand the "Greek" lifestyle. All of the 12 current sororities have individual houses on campus in Oak Lane. Oak Lane is a secluded section of campus that is strictly for Greek housing. In addition to the 12 sororities that have houses there, 4 fraternities have houses there as well. The rest of the fraternities have houses off campus, most of them close to downtown where the bars are. By the Fall of 2012, there will be the first houses of the new Oak Lane built. These will be more traditional Greek houses that are modeled after southern fraternity and sorority houses. This new section of Oak Lane will be modeled after the South Carolina Greek housing.

Transportation at Virginia Tech

B

Easy to Get Around

Getting to and from campus is very easy due to the extensive bus system. The bus goes far from campus and has stops at all the major off campus housing areas in Blacksburg. The bus is free with your tuition and runs late on weekends for students wanting to go to off campus parties. Getting to Blacksburg is not the easiest because there is only one highway (81) to get there. But 81 is also the way to get to many other universities in the South East.

Scholarships at Virginia Tech

C

Not That Much

Financial Aid is available for students who qualify beacause Virginia Tech is a public university. However, you never seem to get enough and the office can be hard to work with.
