There are plenty of places to eat and shop at in and around the area, but getting too far away from the campus starts to enter the more sketchy neighborhoods of Boone. They aren't close by any means, but after a certain point there is more mountain than civilization.

Appalachian State University Campus Housing was reviewed by EmilyC511

Most of the dorms have spacious rooms and you are close to the bathrooms and laundry, but most of the dorms are also kind of old. Luckily, each summer Appalachian State picks a dorm to refurbish and paint and clean up to bring it up to speed with the newer buildings.

Housing is close to shops, as well as public transportation, but are not many new buildings. Most off campus housing starts at $500 and is not always the cleanest.

I have no felt unsafe walking around campus, even after hours. The health services is easy to locate and available at great times to provide for the sick. Any place after dark is going to be a little creepy and there has been past reports around the Boone area about incidents, but nothing recently On campus.
