Perfect College Town
I think Lexington very well may be the Perfect College Town! There is plenty to do no matter your budget. Fayette Mall and Hamburg offer plenty of shopping opportunities. There are lots of different bars downtown for those over 21. The campus/downtown area is also attracting new locally owned restaurants. Many places offer student discounts which help keep things affordable. There is ALWAYS something going on downtown, on campus, or within the greek community. Keeneland is a lot of fun in the fall and spring, and a great chance to dress up. :) Lexington is a fairly safe city, but I wouldn't go walking alone at night. Cincinnati and Louisville are both about an hour away, so if Lexington doesn't have something one of these cities will. UK sports are a HUGE deal in Lexington and I guarantee you'll learn to Bleed Blue like the rest of us! :)

You'll Find It If You're Looking for It...
People drink and I have heard of people getting in trouble for it, but I haven't heard much about drugs. I personally don't drink much and have never felt pressured to drink more. It does depend on your group of friends though.

Parking Is TERRIBLE
Lexington is the type of place you will want a car. Yes, even as a freshman. Many of my friends who forewent the car the first semester definitely brought them for the spring. Unless you're super lucky and get an R pass you'll park miles away from your dorm and have to move your car for every home football game. Passes are relatively expensive, $300 or so for the year. And don't try to park anywhere without one... you will be found, ticketed, or towed. Your best bet is to live off campus.

Expensive but Nice to Have
I would love to have a meal plan again this year, but quite frankly they're over priced. You do get good, healthy options for meals and there is a large variety. Living off-campus it's cheaper to just buy the food outright.

Diversity
UK puts a lot of emphasis on things like racial diversity. I think diversity as a subject matter should be moved towards an individuals differences and focus more on things like political beliefs, religion, etc. Too much of an emphasis on racial diversity. But if you go looking for it you could find anyone with any background.
