Many Different Places
Montreal is a pretty big city so if you want a certain type of food or atmosphere, you can usually find it. As a first year student you usually get caught in the "McGill bubble" where you don't travel much outside the distance from your dorm to campus. There is a lot of pretty good shopping here, mainly on st. laurent and saint catherine. Montreal seems to be a pretty "young" city with a lot of students.

Can't Even Tell
You forget that there is even greek life here, there are a total of like 4 sororities and probably the same number of frats. People don't really go to greek parties unless you are in the system.

It's There
There is the metro but honestly I have never used it. You don't really need to use it unless you are leaving downtown which is pretty rare. There are buses if you ever need to take them for $2.75. There isn't any transportation provided by the university itself besides a number you can call if you're drunk and they will come pick you up for free...if they answer the phone.

All Clubs and Bars
The nightlife is really great here...as long as you like clubs and bars. There are no parties, especially your first year because no one goes to frats or has dorm parties really. There are many options for clubs and bars though and if that is what you enjoy, it's great. It does get kind of old though. It is very easy to get into places because the drinking age is 18.
