Visual Arts Dept. Has a Lot of Perks

Being a Visual Arts major at Harvard has its good and bad parts. The best part is that all of the art supplies that you use in the class are provided and completely FREE! Also, if you are a senior, the department covers the costs of producing your thesis. No other art school that I know of provides free supplies or thesis funding. Your classroom is your studio space which can be used any day of the week, which is also a plus. The classes are small in size (no more than 12 students), but this also means that it's hard to secure a spot in them. The department is very small, which gives it a personal feel, but is also limiting in the choices of courses offered, and the range of art techniques taught.

Local Atmosphere at Harvard University

A+

Boston Is an Excellent College Town

Boston is a college town which means that it has a vibrant atmosphere. There are millions of things to do in the city and a good public transportation system that makes commuting simple and cheap. From museums, to shops, to beaches, mountains and outdoor activities - Boston is a perfect town. Additionally one can also visit other colleges for parties, and socializing.

Off-Campus Dining at Harvard University

C+

Harvard Square Not for the Student Budget

Although there are many restaurants in Boston, students rarely venture outside of Harvard Square. The square offers a range of dining options but they are not very affordable on a student budget. With no real supermarket located within walking distance (there are a few tiny and highly overpriced ones in the square), and a mandatory meal plan, most students rely on the dining hall for their meals.
