Some General Stuff
There's always something going on here at AU; you can find people out and about at all hours.Most things socially speaking are pretty relaxed here: there's no curfew, but there are quiet hours that you can get in trouble for violating.No drugs or alcohol on campus (even if you're over 21), and academic integrity is taken very seriously.

Be Persistante
My advice is to stay on top o f all your documents, apply as early as possible, and do your FAFSA. I got the aid I needed (and more), but I have friends who didn't. Sometimes you are awarded aid last minute, and some aid has strict stipulations attached--be cognicent of this. The school is generous in general I think, you just have to work for it.

Countless Oppertunities to Enrich Your Classes
I'm majoring in International Studies, by far the largest undergraduate major at American University. The professors are all highly qualifyed, and many of them are national and international experts in their fields. There are many groups and clubs on campus that focus on various international issues, from ending Israeli occupation in Palestine to halting international human trafficing.
Many national and international conferences and seminars on important issues are held at American University, and students frequently attend. These events provide good learning oppertunities and sometimes networking oppertuni9ties as well.
In addition to all this on campus, Washington, DC offers a plethera of jobs and internships relevant to an International Studies major! American University if located on Embasy Row, and the many Thinktanks and international non-proffits around make these oppertunities boundless.

Great Variety
The good thing about Washington, DC as far as food is concerned is that you can find anything you want for just about any price. Any type of ethnic food is readily available. You can find a really expensive well-know Italian restaunt, or you can go to a less classy, cheaper one with perfectly decent food. You can find a very reasonably priced Bermese restraunt right near a metro stop, or you can go to an all-American pizza place right near campus. Oh the choices!

Great Public Transit!
DC has great public transportation as a whole to mosst places. Traffic in DC is a nightmare, so mlany peopole, including professors, choose pub trans instead of driving. It's relatively affordable too, especially considering that parking is really expensive around DC. Most students don't have cars. The university also has a database system arranged so that students can find people to share rides with going the same places when driving is more desirable than taking transit.

Technology, Technology
AU students almost always have their own computers,j and the school caters to that; many of the professors post all of their handouts online and don't even hand out paper silabi anymore. Some textbooks are even available as e-books, and many students use their laptops to take notes in class.
There are many computers in the olibrary, and a small computer lab in most of the dorms. Printing is easy in the library and these labs, and is drawn from your student account via your ID card, so you don't have to have cash. The Wifi is great!;

Faith and Freedom
There are people of many, nany religio9us beliefs here at AU. As a result, there are many worship services held here every week--and all in the same small chappel! We share the space and are respectful of eachother, and no matter what you believe you are generally welcome to sit in on others' services and see what it's all about. We also have an Inter-faith forum that meets once a month to discuss inter-faith issues. And oh yeah, there's also an atheist/humanist society.
