I noticed that all freshmen classes are "lectures". So are they all in auditoriums? Or actual classes?

For math yes but other than that surprisingly small classes

Yeah. They say lectures but most of them are in small classes. No more than 30-40 people in a class unless it's math.

A LOT of people have stated that living in a dorm without an included bathroom is the best because you make friends easily that way. Eh. How's the community showers? And how is living in the new dorms or having my own bathroom going to.make me "miserable" ?

The Community showers are good. But, it's expensive and won't ge much refnd back to have fun with. ANd in new dorms no one sees or talk to each other!

How is it expensive? The community showers are mostly in the retro and renovated halls...

The community showers aren't a big deal but I have never made a new friend while going to take a piss.

^^ lol

I don't think I can make it to any of the orientation sessions in June. I was thinking about just attending the one in august since I'll be there anyway for move in day and stuff. So my question is....is the orientation in June different from the the.new student orientation in August? Thanks.

Orientations are all the same. However, if you go later in the summer, classes will already be filling up because when you go to orientation, you register for classes. The good thing is that people play around with their schedules for a while so you can log on any time after you leave orientation and see if people have dropped classes or not. Going earlier gives you an advantage

Yea I'm going to try to go. Thanks :)

How strict is the school?

Its not that strict but they do have non smoking rules and a dry campus

The school isn't really strict at all. Some teachers are strict but the majority are reasonable

Thanks!

MSU is apparently not a party school and Starkville is a pretty small town. Sooo what do students do during the weekend?

...study or hang out with friends. College isn't all about partying.

Um YES, I do know that. I just wanted to know what students do for fun on their free time.......in such a small town

Depends on the student. Some work, some see movies or go out to eat (we have great restaurants), and hang out with friends. You don't have to constantly go out to have fun.

We are an SEC school so there are definitely parties that you can go to. You just have to find people who also like to party and befriend them. The Greek community at State parties just as hard as anywhere else so if you want it to be easy to find parties, go Greek. There are also bars for people over 21 or if it's a down weekend just get some friends together that didn't go home and play drinking games, that is, if you are in to the that stuff.

I haven't signed up for orientation yet because I don't think it's necessary and I just went on a campus tour last Friday. And how is it going to orientation with a parent? Would parents be doing other stuff ? Thanks.

I've actually gone to orientation with my sister a few years ago, and I can honestly say, it is a GREAT experience. Your parents are not going to get in your way at all. They allow the parents to do activites on their own, while the upcoming freshmen do another. And also, it is VERY necessary to go to orientation; this is where you will sign up for your classes and meet new people.

A lot of informaiton is given out for parents and students; my parents really got into the orientation. They sell a good game during orientation

Thanks guys!

The most important part of orientation is the campus tour and registering for classes. I can't remember any of the people i met in my orientation group.

How's the nightlife? Downtown Starkville? Any fun clubs?

Also, what dorms would you recommend for a freshman who wants to make new friends? Thanks : )

If you want to make new friends I would try to stay at a dorm where you don't have your own bathroom such as McKee,sessums,if you have your own bathroom you really won't go out in your hall and meet people , and depending on the night there are a couple clubs likes ricks, cowbells, and most nights you'll probably just be hanging out with friends

Thanks!

There are bars to go to and parties on and off campus thursday-saturday.
