Academics at University of Wisconsin

A

Competitive and Challenging Atmosphere Providing Breadth of Knowledge and Opportunities

Being among other Mass Communication and Mass Media majors inspires a sense of competition and healthy rivalry, usually stemming from the students' fervent desires to break into the media industry. From sports fanatics to reality TV junkies to film buffs, the drive is present throughout, which motivates me while also providing a healthy dose of intimidation. The lecturers, TAs, and professors are all noticeably passionate and knowledgeable in their subject areas and are equally as concerned with the well-being and academic performance of every student. The material covered is appropriate, relevant, challenging, and interesting, which leads me to believe that if I continue to pursue this career path, I'll be well prepared to take on what's expected of me in the future.

Off-Campus Dining at University of Wisconsin

A-

Affordable, Accessible, Delectable Cuisine

The quality of off-campus dining is generally something relative. Having grown up in the heart of Chicago, I've eaten at restaurants and tried foods that sometimes seem unrivaled, which makes me picky about the places at which I choose to dine. Overall, though, Madison offers a diverse selection of eateries, from the more elegant locations to your standard greasy spoon. Numerous cultures are represented, from Greek to African to Lebanese, and the cost is, for the most part, affordable. There's something for everyone, I'm sure, but the best way to get your money's worth is to step outside your comfort zone and do some exploring to find something that truly satisfies your appetite.

Nightlife at University of Wisconsin

B-

Party Hardy

If you're 21 or over (or if you've got a fake that works its magic), the bar scene is definitely one of the hottest and most energetic. On a similar note, you've got your standard house parties and frat parties. But regardless of where you're going and with whom, the objective is often the same - party hardy and "get it in", to borrow a phrase from "Jersey Shore"'s very own, Snookie. If you're not into all of that, Madison has its fair share of more low-key activities, like outdoor (and indoor) shows, free movie nights, food and drink at the Union, etc. At the end of the day, everything is what you make it.
