Professors Are Great, Workload - Not So Much.
The professors here are fantastic, but the workload is astronomical. An incoming Furman student needs to be prepared to spend most of their "free time" in the library. The education is quality, but expect to work HARD for it.

If It Snows ...
... expect no school for a week. The weather is usually gorgeous, if a bit cold during the winter. Definitely not the warm southern climate most people expect.

The Programs Are Amazing, but ...
Students are divided into two "sections" - the super-religious preppy stuck-up greeks (60-70%) and the "fringe kids" that are there for the education/location/campus. Faculty will help you out as much as they can, but don't expect any forgiveness as far as school policy goes. It's very difficult to get back on your feet if you have a bad semester.

HORRID!
The "P-den" food court is good, if you happen to love sushi or Chik-fil-a, but the Dining Hall is atrocious. Visiting student day meals are in no way representative of what we actually eat. I found myself eating off-campus or preferring microwaved ramen 6 days out of 7.

It All Depends on Who You Know.
I've seen students get away with 13+ alcohol convictions, and I've seen students suspended/expelled for a single drug suspicion. As long as you're just a frat kid having a good time, you're probably pretty safe, but if you step outside the "acceptable" lines socially, expect to be watched closely.

Unless You're Greek.
The freshman dorms are pretty bad - South Housing's Blackwell is probably a bit shabbier than your average prison. Don't expect much comfort unless you're in one of the sorority or fraternity halls.

Study Drugs Abound.
Adderol, Ritalin, and other "study drugs" are EVERYWHERE - I'd say 60-75% of Furman students use them fairly regularly, just to get through the courseload. Drinking is around, and there are lots of frat parties. Expect the campus to have quite a few beer cans after a Friday or Saturday night. Other drugs are there, but very underground - I've seen mostly hallucinogens used by responsible people looking for a "mind-expanding" experience. No "street drugs" like cocaine, heroin, etc ... at all. Marijuana is available, but you have to "know the right people." Fu-Po (Furman Police) seem uninformed about pretty much all substances except alcohol, if you are caught with drugs do expect to hear a lot of "War on Drugs" propaganda.
