A Great Place to Learn

Michigan State University has facilities that will benefit everyone. The library is open 24 hours during the weekdays for a majority of the weekend. With 4 different floors and 2 different wings there is always a quite place to study. The gyms (IM building) have recently been upgraded with all new gym equipment, and with 3 different locations, working out is not a chore. Plenty of fast food places all over campus most of which deliver and are a reasonable price. With MSU being such a big campus there are plenty of off living campus apartments, most of which are within walking distance of campus or have a bus service that run right by them.

Safety First

I have always felt safe on Michigan State's campus. All of the dorms are being redone to only allow residents to enter the living areas. At night only someone who lives on campus may enter a dorm unless signed in by a resident. All over campus and each dorm hallway there are green boxes that have an emergency button that connects you immediately to 911. Anywhere on campus you are able to see a green safety box.

Dorm Life

Living on campus was the best decision ever. Each dorm has a cafe in it although late at night and on the weekend only one dorm in each complex has a cafe open (each dorm in a complex is within walking distance). Meeting people is very easy when living in the dorm. Some dorms are farther away from the center of campus then others but there is always buses running that will take you to buildings. Living in the dorm was convenient between classes and when hungry. The only downside was that not everyone on a floor was considerate of everyone else but that generally was not a problem. After sophomore year many students move off campus.

Yummy!

Michigan State has a wide variety of off campus dining. The main street in East Lansing is full of different food options. There is anything from well known fast food, to family owned restaurants. Almost every food place will deliver food at a very reasonable price. Most places will have different deals each night. There are numerous pizza places but each of them range in flavor, non of them are bad. Some of the options include, bagels, cookies, ice cream, subs, sandwiches, greek, mexican, asain, sushi, pizza and many many more.

Making a Large School Small

Michigan state is a school of around 40,000 kids, it is a huge school. Within the University there are residential colleges such as James Madison and Lyman Briggs. These residential colleges take a large campus and make is smaller. You can always take a large school and make it small but you can never take a small school and make it large. The city of East Lansing is built around Michigan State and not through it which makes it nice. You never feel like your in a city but the city is there and has many social options.

Lyman Briggs

I am in the residential college of Lyman Briggs at Michigan State and it was the best college decision I ever made. Lyman Briggs is the best decision for anyone planning on a science major, they offer the basic/required science classes but in a smaller class room setting of about 90 rather then 250+ in general university. Lyman Briggs has some of the best professors on campus and everything was right at my finger tips. My freshman and sophomore year most of my classes were on the first floor of my dorm. I do not regret Lyman Briggs they have helped me gain experience in science that will greatly help me in the future. I am a microbiology major, there are so many options with that degree that I am not really concerned about finding a career one day.
