IT'S A PARTAY!

There is ALWAYS a party at Northern ! Our weekends are Thursday- Sunday. But even on weekdays there is always something going on. Parties are generally by ear on any college campus so some may go off of that but at NIU you can literally walk down by the 7-eleven and find parties just that easy. People are so friendly and easy to get along with. Friday is one of my favorite party days ! It's always nice to let all the stress from the school week go and just kick it.

Depends on your persepctive

I see a lot of people saying how "ghetto" NIU is and how the nightlife doesn't exist. It honestly depends on the type of person you are. If you're open to diversity in the first place you wouldn't think of it as ghetto. Some people come from predominantly white schools or predominantly blacks or hispanic schools. In their eyes they see something completely new and different so their first insight is to judge on what they see. Most college kids who come here are from middle class so you won't run across a lot of rich, snooty people. That's what makes it great. The food is great! I wouldn't say the dorms are the best thing in the world, but that's what you have to face at any dorm. You're not going to get a big room all to yourself, you and your roommate don't have to be best friends and whether you like it or not there are going to be dirty,carless people everywhere. You have to remember you main reason to come is for academics and I would definitely say NIU has a very impressive group of professors who seriously care about us. You won't get that everywhere. And as far as nightlife, it is what you make it. You can always find a party any night of the week. The people who say they can't are the ones who expect the parties to be right in their faces at the dorm.
