Off-Campus Dining at University of California - Santa Cruz

A+

Saturn Cafe

A great diner-style eatery. It has the best of all worlds: awesome food, loads of vegetarian and vegan options, and late-night hours! Definitely a UCSC favorite.

Campus Housing at University of California - Santa Cruz

A

Kresge Apartments Are Sweet

Kresge is one of the colleges in UCSC's ten-college system. It is the college surrounded by the most trees, and has lots of cool murals and outdoor places to hang out. It has a unique housing atmosphere in that all the housing is apartments, no residence halls or dorms. The apartments range from 5 people (two in one room, three in another) to 9 people (several singles, a triple, and a double), and they all have a kitchen, common area, and REAL bathroom you can actually keep your shampoo in! It's not the living sitch for everyone, but it is in my opinion a lot nicer than living in a dorm where you share a bathroom with 30 people.

Diversity at University of California - Santa Cruz

B-

Everyone Is Welcome, but It's Definitely a White Majority

It's amazing how UCSC can be so accepting of people of all walks of life. Everyone finds a nano-community to which they can belong. The only real "stereotype" that may not fit in here is if you are really right-wing republican. If you are part of a racial minority, don't worry - you'll be totally welcome at this school. However, you may feel a little underrepresented as far as the rest of the student population goes, unless you are white or Asian.
