Academics at Centre College

A+

Good Academics, Great Professors!

I love my professors. They may grade a little harder than my high school teachers, but they are always willing to find a way to help. In addition to office hours, professors will answer questions via email and can normally be found around campus outside of their office hours. And the the less popular professors are still good professors.

Registering for classes is easy. Only a few of the classes that are general education requirements are difficult to get into as first years, but I don't think anyone has problems getting the classes they need.

Coming into your first semester, it doesn't seem like taking only 4 classes will be much work. However, the workload at Centre is fairly heavy, but manageable. Every student has the opportunity to study abroad, no matter what they are majoring in. And Centre is still expanding their study abroad programs. I'm excited for the one they just started which is called Centre-in-Glasgow and is very good for science/pre-med majors.

Overall Experience at Centre College

A

I Would Choose Centre Again, Again, and Again!

I knew I couldn't go to a large school and Centre fit almost perfectly my idea of an ideal college; and it still does. Life here is what you make it to be. There are many students who have fun going to the frat houses regularly and others who rather stay in their rooms with some friends and watch movies. The one thing every student on campus has in common is that they are good, respnsible, down-to-earth people who care about academics and their futures.

I did think it is kind of funny that I didn't see anyone walking around campus in their pajamas until exam week.

In class, I have enjoyed how professors incorporate their experiences into the class topics. For example, my humanities professor translated one of the books we read in class. So she was able to get our class to think about wordchoice and interpretation when translating a work. In addition, many of the pictures we looked at in class, my professor had taken recently when she took some students to Greece.

My two favorite experiences out of class have been being on the golf team and attending many of the performances. The golf team has become my second family. I know many students at Centre participate in varsity and intramural sports, but there are actually a lot of activities to do outside of athletics and you don't even have to be a member of the club or organization to participate. Also, I'm not very familiar with famous musicians and entertainers, but I certainly am learning with all the shows at the Norton Center! It may not be big names like the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra or Chloris Leachman coming every week, but all the shows have been amazing! I've attended many of them, and why not when they're free!
