Downtown Lancaster

When most people think of Lancaster, PA, the first thing they always think of is, "There are a lot of Amish people there, right? Oh, and fields. Lots of fields." Well, outside of the city, there is a degree of truth to that, but inside the city, no, that does not really apply. F&M is located about 20 minutes walking distance from the center of Lancaster, and there are always things to do. The first Friday of every month, all of the business and restaurants in town have artwork and live bands. There are plenty of nearby movie theaters, as well as a few performing theaters. There are also a bunch of cool, random shops downtown, especially on the side streets. One time, I walked past a shop covered floor-to-ceiling in shelves of candles. I didn't go in though. The smell was pretty overwhelming even from the outside.

Safety

I've never had a problem with safety at Franklin & Marshall. During my entire freshman year, I have only heard of two people being mugged, which is pretty impressive for being in the center of a city. As for Public Safety (the campus security), they are pretty cool. If they find you drunk, they'll just escort you back to your room.
