Good Place to Have Fun Any Night of the Week
There are lots of bars downtown. Not very many clubs, as far as I am aware though. There are also some karaoke locations. There are a lot of local restaurants or fast food places that are open really late for those who may go out drinking and want some carbs to soak up the alcohol or sober up. Pretty much everywhere is within walking distance, which is nice. Walmart is also a popular thing to do on a Friday night. There is a cheap movie theater that plays good movies. There are lots of parties every weekend, especially by the fraternities. There is a taxi-like service that will pick you up in highly decorated vans or limousines.

Lots of Parking but Its Still Not Enough
VT does its best to have enough parking spaces for students, but, alas, if you do not get there at the right time, it can be very difficult to find a space. Parking passes are expensive but you only have to get it once a year. The people who gives tickets, unfortunately, are brutal and so if you are breaking the rules or run out of parking meter time, THEY WILL TICKET YOU. There is not mercy from them. The fines are usually around $30. A car on campus is not necessary by any means, but does, of course, make life easier.

No Better Place to Be
There is a huge variety of very active student groups on campus. It is easy to meet people and easy to find a niche. There is a campus wide volunteering day that helps people all throughout the community doing a wide variety of things. Football games are a crucial part of the school year. There are picnics, parades, and GREAT concerts on various occasions. As cheesy as it might sound, the community is like a big family. Once a Hokie, always a Hokie. They have a great ROTC, as well. The intramural sports are a huge part of school life, too, for many people. There are many many sports that one can participate in. Campus is not far from many hiking trails and the river.
