Facilities at Wake Forest University

A

Excellent Facilities

The architecture is excellent, very classic and the architectural style is maintained throughout campus, minus Scales. The library is amazing and the athletic facilites are very nice, however the student gym could stand to be larger.

Diversity at Wake Forest University

F

No Diversity What-So-Ever

Admissions maintains the fact that the diversity is increasing ever year at Wake, but I have yet to see that. Everyone is white, and the only African-American students at Wake are there to play sports. Beyond racial diversity, everyone is still homogeneous. There is an extreme lack of religious and political diversity and the students are all the same. There is also a lack of diversity in terms of students' interests.

Admissions also claims that they attract Students from all over the country and internationally and that is also false. As someone who is from the West Coast, I can attest that almost ALL students are from either North Carolina, or a neighboring state (Kentucky, South Caroline, etc.)

Campus Strictness at Wake Forest University

C-

Fairly Strict

The Wake campus can be pretty strict: parking tickets are frequent as are underage drinking tickets. The RAs themselves are not strict, but campus police is. If you get into legal trouble, get caught with a Fake ID, or break school policy, the administration can be extremely unforgiving.

Overall Experience at Wake Forest University

D

University As A Whole

The college experience that Admissions advertises is quite different from the actualy experience of attending Wake Forest. The student body is overwhelmingly homogenous on every level and while academic standards are high, the University as a whole is too conservative to be academically progressive.

The connections you make at Wake Forest are really only beneficial in the Southeastern U.S. Almost all of my professors were from North Carolina, or themselves had attended schools from that region (Davidson, Duke, Wake Forest) and all of the students it seemed were planning on living in the South after graduation.

If you come from a large city, liberal area, or more progressive region of the country, I would not attend Wake Forest. If you are looking to go to a southern University, more prominent ones like Vanderbilt, Duke or Chapel Hill would probably be more fulfilling and would help you make more connections after graduation outside of the South. The town of Winston-Salem is awful and therefore unless you are interested in going Greek, there is hardly anything to fill your free time.

The students are smart and do work hard, however the level of academic integrity is low. Most students only get through class to go party and therefore do not take advantage of the variety of intellectual resources that Wake offers. The rigorous core-curriculum forces students to take many classes they are not interested in whatsoever and I think this contributes largely to that lack of academic integrity.

Southern stereotypes are also alive and well at Wake Forest. The food options are ridiculously unhealthy: most is fried, the vegetables are not fresh and the fruit that is provided often is not fresh and sits in syrup. Most girls are not athletic and completely fit the stereotype of the Southern bell. Trying to work with the administration can be difficult as well as everything moves slower in the south.
