Local Atmosphere
Hampshire is smack-dab in the center of the 5 College Consortium, which can make for a very lively environment if you take advantage of it. Because Hampshire can be isolating, it's really great to "get out of the Hampshire bubble," as people say, and go check out, for example, the Smith art museum. Amherst is a bit of a yuppy town, but it's nice. Northampton is typically where students go to shop, eat, and party, because it has more of an urban environment. Learn to love the buses, because they're your ticket off the farm.

Facilities
The architecture of Hampshire is, in a word, hideous. The 70s were not a good time for buildings. However, Hampshire wouldn't really WORK with big, austere, stately buildings like other campuses. The vibe is way too grungy for that. On the right side, the scenery of Hampshire is gorgeous. There is no student center, and the library is probably the worst of the five college consortium. Working out on campus is not easy. However, there are some cool things to get involved with at Hampshire. The problem with Hampsters, though, is we tend to be lacking in motivation when it comes to gathering to get stuff done. So, meh. Be sure to check out the Spiritual Life Center and the QCA... they're really great spaces!

Transportation
The bus system is pretty convenient. The drivers are from UMass, and usually they're good. However, occasionally you get somebody who slams on the breaks too hard and makes you want to barf. But, hey, it's free!

A+ for Straight Women/Lesbians/Gay Men, F for Straight Men :\
The ladies of Hampshire College are underrated. From hipsters to hippies to punks, they tend to have a great sense of style and natural beauty. However, with such a wide selection of lovely and available women, the small percentage of straight men on campus are tools. Why? Because they CAN be. Of course there are exceptions to this rule. Sadly, these exceptions tend to be taken. Hampshire women often hookup with guys who are way beneath them, which gives a lot of losers an inflated sense of hotness. It is truly tragic. However, queers tend to do well in the romance department, because there are a lot of hot lesbians and gays. That said, most people--regardless of sexual orientation--just want to hit it and quit it.
