D-III School

Sports at Willamette aren't huge, we are a D-III school. We're far more arts driven I'd say. Vocal performances make bigger waves than the football games. That being said, the games I have attended have been fun if you're into that sort of thing and have good energy.

Nightlife at Willamette University

C

Quiet on Campus

The nightlife on campus is pretty much dominated by the fraternities and sororities. However, the campus is small, and there are lots of parties in student homes off campus. Club life is pretty quiet, Salem is not a college town, however there are a few bars for both gay and straight clientele. Portland has more options to pick from and is only an hour's drive.

Campus Strictness at Willamette University

A

If You Respect You'll Be Respected

Attendance depends completely on your professor. I've had profs who take attendance every day and will drop you letter grades if your attendance is poor but I've also had profs who have said they don't care if or when you show up.

As far as the drinking/drug scene, they're not so bad, if you aren't bothering anyone or being disruptive it's not likely you'll be noticed. If you are caught, they tend to give you a second chance. They'd rather you inform them of a problem and get help for it then not tell them out of fear of punishment.

As far as the sex scene goes, there is no curfew and men and women are able to room together in the dorms if they so choose, we also offer gender neutral housing.

Off-Campus Housing at Willamette University

A

Very Residential

There are lots of homes and apartments available withing reasonable distance from campus. Homes can be rented either by room in Salem resident's homes or entire houses can be rented. The neighborhoods around campus are pretty full with either profs, students, or other campus workers. The neighborhoods around the school are generally safe and costs for a room in a home usually range between $300-$600 a month depending on size, location, and amenities included.

Guys & Girls at Willamette University

B

Very Oregon

There are a LOT of hipsters here, we are in the Northwest after all. But there's a lot more than that as well. There are people from just about every walk of life, there's very typical sporty sorority/frat types, more alternative/hipster types, and also a pretty decent LGBTQ community for such a tiny school. However, the campus is small, and the surrounding community of Salem offers just about nothing, so while there is a pretty diverse group on campus, it's not all that large a group to pick from.

Greek Life at Willamette University

A-

Pretty Greek

The Greek life here is defiantly heard by all, and for such a tiny campus we've got a pretty big percentage involved in a frat or a sorority. However it's not your stereotypical UCLA Greek life. Oregon attracts a pretty liberal, open, laid back crowed. They're there and they're known, but they don't for the most part live up to the obnoxious stereotypes on TV.

Facilities at Willamette University

B

Pretty Place

The library is not very pretty, but it has everything a library needs. Computers, copiers, and printers with almost no limit in the number of prints free to students per year. The gym is equipped with lots of things, but if you go at a busy time you might have to wait a bit to use them. There's a great park by campus for running though. The Willamette Events Board and other organisations keep a lot of activities going on. The campus itself is small but beautiful. All the buildings are a great old brick with lots of greenery all around and a stream runs by the dining hall. Food is not bad, just really repetitive.

Campus Housing at Willamette University

A+

Great Choices

There's a great variety of dorms to pick from. There are large dorms with 100+ residents, small dorms with only 20-30, and on-campus apartment complexes (kitchens available). Singles are easily available if desired. There are coed or separated dorms, substance free dorms, and gender neutral dorms. Men and women are able to dorm together if both consent. If there's a roommate problem, it's not hard to change rooms. All buildings have some kind of kitchen. The bathroom's aren't very new, but they are regularly cleaned. I've lived in a single in Lee House, a 25 person all girls dorm, for 2 years, and have had few complaints.
