Nice but Average
Unfortunately, SCU is kind of like an oasis because it's such a great campus, but there's not much around it within walking distance. Because freshman aren't allowed to have cars, this makes it hard to find something fun to do locally. That being said, the bus stop is right across the street, and it's so easy to get to Santana Row and Valley Fair. There are a few cute restaurants nearby, and the Rose Garden makes a nice walk or an easy run. The locals seem nice, there's just not a lot of interaction.

Know Greek, Know Fun
As a member of a sorority at SCU, I am completely, absolutely in love with the Greek system. There's literally zero pressure to be a part of it, and I have tons of friends in different sororities or who are not Greek at all. Every sorority and frat has its stereotype, and they are well known, but not everyone fits them. Rush for sororities is nothing like it is at the big schools, there's absolutely no hazing or rude comments about body image. As far as parties go, the mixers I've attended are fun but nothing special, and I'm pretty sure any girl could get in if they waited a little bit. It's definitely harder for guys to get into parties though. For the most part, being in a sorority hasn't been about the parties, it's been about meeting an INCREDIBLE group of girls who are my role models.

Sun, sun, sun
All I've heard my friends from other states talk about is how beautiful the weather is here! Granted, it does get pretty cold and it's drizzled a few times, but we were literally out tanning in December. Fall quarter is awesome and there are so many people outside playing frisbee and doing homework. Definitely gets colder in winter quarter, but there is almost always full sun.

A Must
Unfortunately, there's not a lot that's great within walking distance of SCU. But the bus system is really easy to use, if a bit expensive, and it's relatively easy to get a train to Berkeley or Davis for a weekend. The Zipcar system is pretty good and very easy to use, but it gets expensive if you're not sharing. Overall though, there's really not much of a reason to leave SCU every weekend. I thought I would be out and about, but there really isn't time!

You Come Out a Better Person
So far, I have only been in classes with 16 people in the room. It's amazing. You get personal attention and the professors always make themselves available. I've had a few who are really exceptional. It's not too hard to get As, but the honors classes are a lot tougher (that being said, the honors program is phenomenal). Also, the website always talks about the Jesuit philosophy and it sounds like a lot of BS, but it's actually quite true. The classes don't make you memorize pointless info; they turn you into a critical thinker with an awareness for justice.

Health Center...
The Health Center is completely useless. The one time I tried to get a prescription filled, they never had it and I had to go days without it. If you go to get checked for an illness, they just give you medication without a diagnosis. Campus safety is pretty good. They are reasonable about noise violations and if you get locked out of your room, they are very helpful and come quickly.
