Off-Campus Dining at Dartmouth College

B+

Much Better Than Expected...

...for such a small suburban town. The options for off-campus dining, while not numerous, are nicely varied. Just don't expect any brand-name chain eateries to roll into town any time soon; Hanover makes a point of keeping those out.

The local feel to the restaurants is great, however, and while my personal favorite is probably Yama (Korean entrees/Japanese sushi bar), others like Jewel of India and Gusanoz are other reasonably priced and palatable ethnic options. For those who like their eating out more American, there is a wide variety of those too, from Canoe Club (refined casual, expensive) to Ramunto's and EBA's (your typical American pizzas, wings, etc., cheaper).

Greek Life at Dartmouth College

B

Somewhat Overrated

Dartmouth has pretty much average frat parties. They're open to everyone, generally speaking, which can be nice for those who like to fill their weekends with Dartmouth's freely-flowing Keystone Light. I say average because they are neither super-rowdy nor super-downbeat. There are Greek houses pretty much for everyone.

I claim Greek life is overrated because there are those who within the system for whom nothing else seems to matter. Greek life is their life. However, for those outside or on the periphery of the system, which is a solid if not an overwhelming majority, the fuss about which house is better than what house can seem downright, well, fussy and pointless. The majority of campus falls somewhere in between. It's up to you how involved you want to get with Greek life.

Campus Housing at Dartmouth College

A

Huge Variety of Well-Kept Dorms

The best part of housing at Dartmouth is the sheer variety. We have singles, doubles one room and two room and three room, triples with one up to three rooms, four- and five-person suites, apartments, and affinity housing. Gender neutral housing is another really unique living style most commonly found in the East Wheelock cluster. New dorms like Fahey-McLane and McLaughlin are very spacious and well-designed although still with that generic dorm feeling. Older dorms like the Massachusetts cluster, although sometimes outfitted with aging utilities, are kept in good repair.
