Psychology
The Psychology Department is definitely one of the most impacted majors here at UCSC. The professors are experienced and knowledgeable, but I wish we could have smaller classes.

Drugs- to Use or Not to Use?
Drug use is really an option at UCSC. No one cares either way. If you want to use, there are opportunities to do so. If not, that's fine too. If you don;t like the smell of weed this school isn't for you.

UCSC is well known for its protests and activism. On March 4, 2010, hundreds of students rallied together in the Quarry Plaza (seen above) and proceeded to walk down to the base of campus to block it off. The protest was in opposition to recent budget cuts that resulted in increased student fees during the winter of 2010.
Sustainable Student Activism
Sustainable Student Activism
On March 4, 2010, hundreds of students expressed their frustration with the recent increase in student fees by striking at the base of campus. The students promoted sustainability as they voiced their frustration by displaying signs that read things such as "Hike Mountains, Not Fees." They also had a bike-powered microphone for speakers to use during the rally (seen above).
Breathtaking Scenery

UC Santa Cruz is known for its beautiful natural scenery. Some student housing is surrounded by Redwood trees and others overlook this scene of the Monterey Bay. Stevenson College and Cowell College, as well as the Wellness Center and sports field, are located on the East side of campus where this shot was taken.
Kresge's KC the Owl
Kresge's KC the Owl
The campus is divided into 10 different colleges. Everyone is a Banana Slug, but Kresge College actually has its own mascot (it's the only college that has another mascot). Here you see KC the owl preparing to greet students on move-in day. He comes out on special occasions throughout the year!
Squiggle (aka the Porter Wave)
Squiggle (aka the Porter Wave)
This sculpture is a hot spot on campus and usually makes it onto campus brochures, too. It's located in the Porter Meadow very close to College 8. It is very typical to see students watching the sunset, catching some rays, or just hanging out on the Squiggle most days and nights.
4-20 Festivities
4-20 Festivities
April 20 has become notorious at UCSC. It is known as a day for everyone to smoke pot and not get in trouble. The campus tries to minimize the activities, but each year hundreds of students from all of the neighboring colleges (as well as from surrounding cities) gather at the Porter Meadow to smoke together.
Natural Surroundings
Natural Surroundings
The Kresge apartments are situated in a grove of redwood trees. The entire campus is full of wildlife and natural plants, which is probably where the nickname "UC Summer Camp" came from.
