Facilities at Howard University

Library Hours Suck

As of August 2011, Howard University is doing major renovations in several of its buildings. There are several libraries on campus however none of the which are open 24 hours. I think its necessary to have a few 24 hour libraries because some students thrive at 4 in the morning. I love my school and all its facilities. And after these renovations it will be even better :)

Local Atmosphere at Howard University

A+

Washington D.C. Is AMAZING

I attend Howard University, located in the Nation's Capital. Washington, D.C. is by far the best area in the country to matriculate. The National Mall is walking distance from my dorm. I can see the Capitol Building while I eat lunch. I can visit the Library of Congress if I want to do some research. There are so many opportunities in D.C. that you would not have in other locations. From the wide variety of food choices, to the thousands of corporations and businesses in such close proximity, D.C. has so much to offer college students. You can go kayaking on the Potomac on Friday and (for those over 21) bar crawl down U Street on Saturday. There will never be weekend that you can say "I wish there was something to do." Washington D.C. is amazing and I am so thankful I live here (for now)!

Health & Safety at Howard University

C-

Howard Isn't the Safest

Howard University is located in a predominantly black area. The campus is open, meaning anyone from the area can walk onto the campus. There are occasional robberies and other crimes. I do not walk around at night because I do not personally feel safe. A three hundred pound football player may feel otherwise. There are emergency towers located all around campus. Emergency towers poles with a button that connects you directly to the campus police. However once the button is pushed, the campus police tend to take a long time to respond. Howard University campus is not that safe and I recommend investing in pepper spray just in case.

Nightlife at Howard University

A

Its a Party, Its a Party, Its a Party

At Howard University, parties are a huge portion of campus life. The university even offers free shuttle buses to and from night clubs. There are so many different kinds of night clubs in Washington D.C., that regardless of your taste there is something for you. And if night clubs aren't your thing, there is always a house party walking distance from the campus. The down side about house parties is they are often shut down by the police before 2 am (which is early for some). If you like to drink, dance and have fun, there will always be something for you on Howard's campus.
