Fun, Spirited, Crazy
We have Assembly Hall, which houses basketball, all kinds of awesome concerts and shows, and a theater and museum. We have the typical movie theater and mall nearby. Mainly, we all attend sporting events, go to the many bars on campus, or attend frat parties. The campus is very diverse, and although I normally do not feel unsafe, it is a very unsafe campus. It is dangerous. However, the locals all root us on and we are so spirited and always have a good time.

Diversity!
U of I is very diverse. In the dorms we have multicultural advocates. We have a large number of African Americans, and 1 in 4 are Asian here. They have many cultural houses where you can go and chat and get free lunch regardless of your ethnicity. A lot of people here are upper-middle class. I do not know the political beliefs of many of my peers here or religious beliefs. However, we have a lot of great Christian groups on campus and even Catholic housing. Religion seems to be very important to a lot of people here. We also have a somewhat strong LGBTQ population and they have groups to talk and have events like movie nights where all students are welcome.

I Don't Want a Car
I don't want a car on campus. I want a moped. It is so difficult to drive around here with bikes and people walking because they cross the street whenever. It is stressful and difficult. There are large ticketing and fines and we have a good bus system. If you have a bike and use the buses, and have no need to go off campus like for student teaching for education majors or certain golf courses for golfers, you don't need a car. The lots are somewhat out of the way because there are usually not a ton of spots. Yay for parallel parking...hah joke.

Elementary Education...Harder Than You'd Think!
I am an el-ed major...well, trying to be. Here, first you must get accepted into pre-teacher education. After your sophomore year, you can apply for the major and have to get accepted. They only accept 125 el-ed majors and the average GPA is around 3.6 or 3.7. You must take a basic skills test at the neighboring community college (there's a bus) and complete 50 hours in the classroom. It is a LOT harder than education majors are deemed to be. However, at such a large school, it's nice to have such a small group of people in my major. Certain classes have a very heavy workload while others are honestly pathetic (these classes are few.) The facilities are pretty, yet a lot need to be renovated. If you're in the business or engineering facilities, however, these are nicer and newer. The career center offers a lot of internship and job opportunities and works well with students.
