Social Life Can Depend on Frats
Frats tend to dominate the social scene in terms of parties. Sororities can't hold parties due to state laws, but they tend to run the campus in terms of leadership. Guys can't get into parties after first semester of freshman year unless they are in a frat. For girls, it doesn't matter. Definitely a great way to meet people and gain leadership skills. Hazing is a lot more prominent in frats, and only one sorority on campus hazes. It's really fun, but can be expensive (~$300/semester for sororities, between $600-$1000 for frats

Rigorous Academics Depend on Program, Classes Substantial
I haven't declared yet, but almost all departments at F&M involve a rigorous workload, especially the sciences. We also have fantastic government and history programs. F&M is known to have more work than some other reputedly "better" schools, so expect to work hard. We have fantastic facilities, including a monkey lab! F&M is also highly regarded by employers and graduate schools, so that is a plus. We don't have difficult general education requirements to complete-- in fact, I finished all but two courses in my first year, and they were all classes I would have wanted to take anyway.

Car Helpful but Not Necessary
Freshmen cannot have a car on campus, which is only annoying because you have to schedule your trips to and from school around when others are available to drive you and train times (it is within walking distance, but it is too far if you have a lot of heavy bags). There is a parking lot on campus near the dorms for upperclassmen, and everyone can fit (although some people are stuck with bad spots). Freshmen can sneak onto the streets to park, but they have to move their cars every other Tuesday or something like that because of street cleaning.
