Health & Safety at Bucknell University

A-

No Need to Worry

The safety at Bucknell is amazing. I feel safe walking home at any hour and can contact Public Safety in regards to any problem that may happen. The university is very proactive about keeping the environment as safe as possible. Residential buildings require student IDs for entrance, with specific hours where only residents of specific buildings are allowed admittance. There are also emergency phones located around campus; however, I have never heard of a student needing to use them. There is a very low crime rate. Public Safety Officers patrol the area in cars and are armed. They are always on call and assist with security at large functions.

Nightlife at Bucknell University

A+

No Clubs but Lots of Parties

Nightlife is really big at Bucknell. Major party nights include Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. During the week parties are downtown at houses off campus but on weekends there are always events on campus. If you are 21 there are pub nights with 3 free drinks at least once a month as well as wine tasting opportunities. Additionally, bars downtown have special drink offers on Thursday nights so that becomes another night to go out, and then on Tuesdays there is Trivia Night at a local bar. Everything is in walking distance so no need to drive ever. The bars are strict about IDing students so don't even try if you are underage. The campus is wet, so beer and wine are permitted in the rooms of students who are 21.

Inside Scoop at Bucknell University

Tons of Tradition

A majority of the students here go Greek, but Rush doesn't occur until sophomore year. Bucknell is all about networking so there are many opportunities to network with alumni, and alumni help provide many internships to students. During winter break of sophomore year there is an externship program in which students shadow an alum in an area of interest for a couple of days. We also have House Party Weekend, which is a kickoff for spring, and consists of BBQs and concerts/parties for an entire weekend. It is put on by IFC and after purchasing a wristband you can attend events at any frat and eat all the food you want for free. Chrysalis is another tradition over trustees weekend in the spring. Live music that is multi-generational comes and performs for this semi-formal event. We have our own style of brick referred to as Bucknell brick and the buildings also all have the same white trim. It is a gorgeous campus in a small college town that has some its own traditions, as well.
