Campus Housing at Indiana University

C

Living on the Southeast Side of Campus

When I came to IU, I was an out-of-state student so I didn't specify where I wanted to live since I didn't know the difference. I wound up on the southeast edge of campus, which was a ridiculously long walk from classes. The dorm I lived in was referred to as the "ghetto" dorm because it did not have AC and because all of first-generation college students were housed there and were allowed to run rampant. The only redeeming factors were that I luckily landed on a floor with great girls, and made some amazing friends. Also, the dorm food is really varied, and good. Lots of healthy options.

Off-Campus Housing at Indiana University

There Is an Apartment for Everyone

At IU, almost nobody lives in the dorms after freshman year, in part because of overcrowding. Off campus, there are SO many choices for renting a house or apartment. You can live as close or as far as you want, find somewhere cheap or live in a luxury apartment. The only downfall is landlord issues. Everyone I know has at some point had problems with their landlord. My personal issue was that my house was getting broken into and it took my landlord over a month to repair the lock on the back door.

Overall Experience at Indiana University

IUB Is Great

I love IU and Bloomington and would choose the same school if I could do it all over again. Going to a University of this size provides amazing research opportunities. I have great professors and love most of my classes. Even though IU's athletic teams haven't been that great in recent years, it still is so special to tailgate and go to a Big Ten game. The nightlife here is great too.
