Lots of Options, You Just Need to Know Where to Look.
Like most schools the computer labs will be crowded towards the end of each semester, but overall NYU has a pretty great system. The printing labs are somewhat easy to figure out after the first time, and hopefully you will be able to get in and out quickly. There are also THOUSANDS of computers all over the campus in every building which is a great plus. There are desktop computers on every floor of the library and the basement also has several computer labs which are often empty. Sometimes your internet might drop out, but for the most part it works quite easily and the Tech Help people are always helpful (haha). For the most part I would say a personal computer might not be essential if you don't mind going to the library or some other public location to write essays.

Wide Wide Wide Variety
There are many choices when it comes to housing at NYU. There will of course be some dorms which are much closer to the campus (mostly freshmen), some which are much smaller, some which are much cheaper, but NYU has a very honest and simple application process. You know what you are getting and how much you will pay. Some of the low-cost option dorms are almost unbearable, but each building is located in a dynamite neighborhood. Just take your time looking over all of your options. Remember, it is a place you will stay at for a whole year, maybe an extra thousand dollars wouldn't be too much to squeeze from daddyo.

A Little of Each Season
In New York City you get to experience each season pretty much. In the beginning of each school year its beautiful hot days where kids are lounging in Washington Square in shorts and tees. Autumn might come a bit too soon but the colors are beautiful around campus. After winter break there will be a snow storm or two in which NYU could possibly cancel classes. New Yorkers are famously wimps in transportation in snow, so thats good! Finally spring comes along which is a great relaxer to the stress of finals and such.

A Little of Each, a Lot of Others
Although you will probably find a person from almost every corner of the earth at NYU the percentages seem somewhat unbalanced. The majority is middle class white kids, but that doesn't mean you can't find other groups. NYU has many ethnic clubs and organizations. You will also meet diverse crowds just in your day-to-day experience. Last year I had a girl from Guam live across the hall from me!

New York Mothatrucking City!
It is undeniable that the majority of students who choose NYU do it because of NYC. There's no shame in denying it. New York City is the greatest city in the world and it is really a privilege to get to live there. You will be able to see incredible cultural events that none of your friends will be able to experience anywhere else. At times you will have to check yourself though, because the New York scene will often get in the way of your academic life.

Get Creative With It!
The dining halls have some variety. You will find each of the ten dining halls have their own pros and cons. They offer a lot of options at each place, with vegetarian meals and such. There are also pre-packaged meals like sushi or sandwiches which you can just grab to go. Its a pretty good deal, but it wouldn't be too bad to do part campus dining and part outside of campus. There are a lot of places to eat which are pretty cheap. It also gives you another reason to explore the vastness of the city!

Gallatin School of Individualized Study
It was not too difficult to apply to Gallatin. They are looking for interests or hobbies that you already have and would like to pursue in an academic atmosphere. Your GPA or SAT scores are not as crucial as your character and passions it seems. Also it is wise to be come accustomed to the Gallatin program and how it would be a perfect match for you

It Is Completely Possible.
I have a work study job at the film center of NYU which I got pretty easily. I work there just for the money, but career center also offers internships that follow you academic pursuits. I haven't looked into this path yet, but I have gotten an internship with an artist and musician who I contacted myself. That is the great thing about living in New York, there are thousands of professionals who are interested in young cheap labor, but its a great opportunity for you too. I sent emails to about five artists and this one guy was the only to answer, but I got it!

Not Too Necessary, but There If You Need It.
There is a variety of options with transportation. The subway system is excellent and relatively cheap. Taxis will be a bit pricier unless you travel with four people and not too far. NYU also offers Public Safety Ride which is like a taxi but I think they'll only do it after a certain time. There is also the bus system of NYU which takes students from campus to dorms scattered throughout the city, but it has a strange schedule I have heard. It is pretty easy to get to JFK. You could just take a taxi (easiest), but there is also the subway to Jamaica and then AirTrain to the airport.

Happy Happy Happy
I am very glad I chose Gallatin. The courses offered here are very eclectic and very friendly. Unlike other NYU classes, Gallatin classes are usually under 20 students and the teacher will definitely get to know you by the end of the semester. I would have liked to take more Gallatin classes if I could. My major career goal is to be a practicing artist, but I would also be happy with a position as an illustrator, teacher or whatever! I'm a little worried about the job market, but I am not really a material person so I know I will always be happy if I make my art in one way or another.

Hmmm
NYU is always sending out emails alerting the student body of upcoming games and such, but overall I would say NYU students are not too interested in athletics. There are intramural sports which can be fun and laid-back. There are also two great exercise facilities with weight training, lap pools, basketball courts, etc. You could always go to Madison Square Garden for a Knicks game if you wanna get pumped up...

Like Any Other School Really...
Drugs and alcohol are definitely present at NYU. You would not see it in an average day at school, but you might hear someone in one of your classes talking about "last saturday's wicked sweet party". I haven't heard of much drug use besides smoking pot and drinking alcohol. Usually there will be a stoner on your floor of your dorm who will occasionally stink up the halls, but they'll get in trouble pretty soon.

Too Much to Do
New york City is truly the greatest city in world. There are limitless options for you to do on any given day. You will find many beautiful parks and sights, movie premieres, art galleries, music venues and so much more. It is a very safe city during the day, but I would not recommend walking around too many dark streets by yourself. You will easily tell if you are comfortable or not. There is some hostility towards college students because of the stereotypes (usually pretty true) such as walking too slow and covering the whole sidewalk, talking too loudly in the subway or public intoxication. Don't be that kid!

Better for Boys
I think the percentage of girls is 59% at NYU. There is also a large gay population at NYU. There is a diverse crowd at NYU in terms of a student's "look", you could probably find any type of kid you could think of. It seems like most people are hopelessly single, but there's always a chance of true love! ha.
