Off-Campus Dining at Whitman College

B+

Suprisingly Good

Walla Walla is a pretty small town, but the options to eat off campus are great overall. The Walla Walla valley is known for it's wine (think of the Napa of Washington state), making downtown dining a highlight. The variety isn't impressive and some restaurants are pricey. However, the restaurants that are good are very good. My parents love coming to visit me because of the really great restaurants in Walla Walla (plus the wine!). Besides fast food, there is very little available late at night.

Athletics at Whitman College

A-

A Great Variety

Although Whitman isn't known for its athletics, we have a great variety of sports and ways to be a part of athletics. We are D III and don't have a football team, so we don't tend to have the big school fanaticism around athletics. But our soccer, basketball, volleyball, swim, and tennis teams are incredible. Home games are definitely fun to go to and many of the teams are consistent conference champions. Other than varsity, we have a great variety of club teams (rugby, lacrosse, skiing, ultimate frisbee, cycling, volleyball, tennis,...). My favorite part of Whitman athletics is intramural sports. Something like 70% of Whitman students play IM sports. IM sports run year round and there's something for everyone. I play flag football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. We also have basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, dodgeball, and mini-golf.

Overall Experience at Whitman College

A

I Made the Right Choice

I love Whitman. Seriously, this school is awesome. I was completely thrown off when I visited because it was not at all what I expected. I didn't really have that "this is the place" feeling during any of the my college tours, and while I can't say for sure that's how I felt when I visited Whitman, I immediately felt comfortable and at home. And that feeling has continued. I came to Whitman in January, after the freshmen all had a semester to get acclimated, and I was worried it was going to be hard for me to fit in and make friends. I was completely wrong. This is an incredibly friendly campus. You feel like you know everyone and anywhere you go you know people or meet people. I'm in my junior year and am continually meeting awesome people that I'm surprised I never met before. Whenever I'm in a bad mood, simply walking across campus with the overwhelming amount of smiles, hi's, and friend waves can cheer me up in a second. I'm so happy I made the right choice to come here.

Campus Housing at Whitman College

A

Freshman Dorms

I loved living in one of the two all-freshman dorms my first year at Whitman. Not only is it extremely fun and always exciting, but you create a network of friends who you will never forget. I'll still very close with all my friends who lived in the dorms with me freshman year. My roommate freshman year continues to be one of my closest friends and I'm my senior year I'm living with 5 people from my freshman year dorm!

Parking at Whitman College

A+

Parking Doesn't Matter!

A lot of students don't have cars and it's a small school so parking is completely reasonable! Most students don't pay anything to park on campus. I would say overall it's not an issue and very easy to deal with parking, no matter your year in school or where you live.

Facilities at Whitman College

A+

Popular Library

Our library is the best. We jokingly say it's the most popular building on campus... which is kind of is! And not because people here spend all their time studying, it's just a great facility! There is plenty of space to study, tons of resources, places for group projects, and a great reference staff. Overall, it's the best place to study and to get information for classes and research.

Local Atmosphere at Whitman College

A

Beautiful Walla Walla

Walla Walla is beautiful. Although it is not a big city, there is so much to do and see. I love getting off campus and going for a run in the wheatfields, skiing at Bluewood, going kayaking on the river, taking a drive, going camping, and watching the amazing Walla Walla sunsets. There are plenty of parks and places to run and go for a bike ride. It's easy to get around town and fun to go exploring to new places.

Transportation at Whitman College

A

No Need for Transportation

Because the campus and the town are so small, there is very little need for transportation at Whitman. A car is nice to go to the store or a restaurant, but everything is within walking distance. Most students ride their bikes if they live off campus and it's easy to get around. It's nice being able to get to class within minutes from anywhere on campus and even living off campus, it's usually only a 5 to 10 minute walk.
